All Set for Race Day?

Welcome to this TriClub Doha and Education City event. And especialy if this is your first triathlon — we hope it is the start of something wonderful.

With swimming, cycling, running and the transitions, there is a lot to work out, so we recommend arriving at least 60 minutes before your start, so you have time to check in, set up, and get familiar with the layout.

Our volunteers and officials are on hand to give you advice and you’ll find many of your questions answered in the ‘Guides’ section of our website

Parents Be Ready

Ensure your child’s bike is safe and has functioning brakes. They will not be allowed to participate if officials feel their bike is a danger to themselves or others.

All participants, including children, must wear an approved cycling helmet with the strap correctly fastened snug around the chin.
We encourage parents to allow their children to be independent. If younger children need assistance, be mindful not to get in the way of other competitors.

Sport should be fun – encourage enjoyment!

Setting Up Transition

Present your bike for safety inspection with your helmet on and strap fastened snugly around your chin.

Choose your own spot on the racking. Positions are not marked. Each transition rack fits four bicycles. You have a 50cm space - 25cm either side of your front wheel - in which to layout kit for cycling and running. Be considerate to your transition neighbours.

Remove extra bags and equipment that won't be used during the race.

TOP TIP! Learn the routes through transition and memorise your position on the rack. Find the location of the mount line where you are allowed to start cycling.

A SAFE BIKE

Our officials will check bikes have functioning brakes; have plugged bar ends; is mechanically safe, and that helmet straps fit well. They cannot fix problems and you should ensure you, or a mechanic, check your bike before arrival.

Check Your Timing Chip

Use the chip-checker at registration to ensure your timing chip is functional. Alternatively, pass over the finish line and listen for the BEEP!

We strongly advise checking chips before starting. We cannot guarantee that those with chip mis-reads; or those who are given a last-minute entry; or who forget their chip; or use a chip other than that assigned, will feature in the results before the awards ceremony.

Race Routes

QUICK ESSENTIALS

Bike and run courses are signed and the main turns are marshalled, but you must know and count your own laps. Knowing the flow through transitions to the bike and run laps could gain you valuable time.

>>TAP TO SEE THE ROUTES IN DETAIL<<

Know Your Lap Count

 SWIMBIKERUN
SPRINT 10 lengths (500m) 4 laps (20km) 4 laps (5km)
SUPER-SPRINT 4 lengths (500m) 2 laps (10km) 2 laps (2.5km)
MICRO-SPRINT 2 lengths 100m) 1 lap (5km) 1 lap1 (1.2km)
TRISTART 1 length (50m) 1 lap (3km) 1 lap (1.2km)

Swim Course

Swim one length; touch the wall; switch to the next lane; repeat until the steps at the end of the last lane. There is no requirement to touch the wall before exit.
Your race starts when your chip crosses the timing mat: Stay clear of the mats to avoid timing errors

THE ROLLING START

Competitors are sent to the start zone in order of swim speed, then started at 10 second intervals
Your race starts when your chip crosses the start-line: Stay clear of the mats to avoid timing errors
There is no advantage to starting first. In fact, it could be a serious disadvantage if strong swimmers swim over you. Know your 100m time and start with the appropriate group

STAY OUTSIDE START ZONE

Enter the pool through the entrance shown and stay outside the start zone until called
Only athletes are allowed poolside: parents and spectators are requested to watch from the bleacher section

Transition Flow

TRANSITION RULES

  1. Chests and thighs must be covered during the bike and run segments in all races except Mini-Kids. If swimming in a swimsuit, have a t-shirt and shorts ready in transition.
  2. No cycling in transition. Learn the location of the mount and dismount lines.
  3. Helmet must be on and fastened before removing your bike and at all times when your bike is off the rack.
  4. Parents – help your child to understand these rules.

Bike Course

The bike course is a multi-lap route on a closed-road course with marshalled turn points.

Turn left out of the event venue, past Ceremonial Court, the student centre, Oxygen Park and make a U-Turn after 2.5km.

One lap is 5km. Sprint and Super-Sprint athletes will make another U-Turn on the road outside the event venue to continue the required number of laps for their race.

For Youth aged 7-9 The route is similar except they will make their U-turn after 1.5km. The turn point is marked with a smiley face sign and a marshal. Parents: tell your child to ‘Look for the smiley face’.

SAFETY

There are several large speed humps which need to be ridden carefully.

There are three roundabouts. The first two will be ‘cut’ and therefore cyclists must keep right and avoid overtaking in this section. Proceed straight on at the 3rd roundabout (2nd exit).

Run Course

The run is on a multi-lap, out-and-back course with marshalled turn points. The route from transition to the lap section is a little complicated and it is worth taking time to understand it.

The run course exits from the bottom end of transition. Turns left then left again to pass the finish banner then takes the path to join the run lap on the main road. The turn point is at 600m.

One lap is 1.2Km. Sprint and Super-Sprint athletes will make another U-Turn on the road outside the event venue to complete the required number of laps for their race.

Mini-Kids Fun Race

Your family’s sport is completed by a Mini-Kids Triathlon for the under sevens. This is a fun, non-competitive event...we are looking for lots of smiles and hopefully no tears... hoping to inspire a new generation who are, of course, already inspired by their mum, dad and older sibling triathletes. Every Mini-Kid will cross the finish line and collect an Education City Triathlon finisher medal.

Parents are requested to assist in the facilitation of this event.

Mini-kids swim up to 50 meters. If your child cannot swim a full length, they can enter the pool further down to ensure they are safe.

Their bike, helmet and shoes are waiting in the smaller car park nearest the pool. Do not set up mini-kids in the main transition area. It is allowed to put on shoes outside the pool before continuing to the transition.

Mini-kids are allowed to compete in swimwear but are recommended to wear a t-shirt while cycling and running.
The run goes directly to the finish line… the only obstacle they will encounter is passing through the cheer-tunnel of over-enthusiastic adults!

Congratulations to our youngest triathletes.

Results & Awards

Every finisher is awarded a medal as recognition of achievement. You might also reward your effort with a post-race snack of a banana and a muffin. Collect it near the finish line.
Medals are awarded to the top three male and female winners of each individual category and the top three teams in each relay.

‘Live’ unverified results are available throughout the race. Please highlight any discrepances before the awards ceremony if possible.
